I was shooting a Ruger Alaskan .416 Ruger with 400 grain A-Frames. It packs a hell of a punch.

Kids and wife were shooting a Ruger American Compact in .308. I minimum loaded some 168 ttsx Barnes to around 2425 FPS. We put a silencer on it and it performed beautifully. For a $300 youth model gun with a 20” stock, I wouldn’t change a thing about it. Absolutely perfect for the kids. I had a slip on pad for the wife and myself and it was great.

    Which 416?

What'd the wife and kids shoot?

    What bullets/ammo?

    Scopes?

They are wearing me out about shooting some deer, but they’re going to have to wait a bit.

What was the weather like? I see jackets and long pants so that doesn't make me think Africa at all

I’d comfortably say you can definitely do a full safari with flights, tips, taxidermy, everything for $8000. You have to be picky on your animals though.

Thanks for that info! Looks like a blast.

It’s the desert in the winter. A few days were warm 75+, but most were pretty damn windy and cold. 35-65 with wind

Not endorsing them, but this is what starter packages looks like. If anyone is serious talk to me first, I have beaten the proverbial bush.

Congrats on an awesome family vacay and condolences for the loss of your mother. I just returned from a trip to Africa and this brought back some memories. That red dirt is special and I can’t wait to return with my son one day. It’s more affordable than most think you just have to do it and commit. The taxidermy bill is what I am most worried about.

Did you hunt with Wilde wildebeest or is Jacque with another outfit now?

You see it, something of it is coming back. If you don’t export it, you pay 15% VAT tax. There will be a lot of skull mounts.

Jacques hunted with me at Wildwildeebeest. He is doing some hunting with a few other groups too. He’s in Mozambique at the end of the month.

Thank you for sharing that. Just incredible. I am sure you realize you've ruined those boys in the very best way there is to ruin a boy.

I am sorry about your mom.

Stunning trip. The game was simply a bonus after spending quality time with the wife and kids. MG
