Newberry man to plead guilty to breaching Capitol during Jan. 6 riot, attorney says
WASHINGTON —
A South Carolina man has agreed to a plea deal with the government and will plead guilty to participating in the riot at the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 6.
A federal criminal complaint accused Andrew Hatley, of Newberry, of entering a restricted building, engaging in disorderly conduct on the Capitol grounds and demonstrating in the Capitol building. The complaint included photos of a man investigators identified as Hatley taken during the riot.
Hatley's attorney Joseph Conte confirmed the plea deal. Court documents show a plea hearing for Hatley is scheduled for Sept. 14.
Investigators said Hatley drove to Washington, D.C., from his South Carolina home the day before the protests.
Investigators used geolocation data Hatley was sharing through an app on his phone to show he attended the protests, according to the complaint.
