Default Cheap scope for a gun I'm setting up for my son-in-law.

He only deer hunts a couple of times a year and I've got an old, but accurate, Savage 110e that I want to get out of the house anyway but the old scope is almost unusable. Of course, it's a .30-06. I don't want to spend a lot of money just because he hunts so seldom. Looking at this unless $120 Cabela's caliber specific rifle scope unless someone else has a suggestion. It has a bullet-drop compensator already built-in and set up for a 150 grain bullet.

Burris fullfield 2. It has ballistic drop reticle. I have one that has been on a 22 up to a 7mag. Never had a problem with it. Sits on my 243 now. Cameraland has em for like 159

The Bushnell Elites are very under-rated. And given the distances he will probably be restricted to, learning how to use the Duplex Reticle in place of a ballistic reticle isn't hard to do with a little practice.

Vortex Diamondback or Crossfire. Good warranty.

Vortex Sonora4-12x44 with a cantilever mount is out there for $150. I have it on a 6.5 Grendel, great for an “occasional” gun.

I don’t believe in cheap anything.

A Savage is an inexpensive rifle but certainly not a cheap one - it’s a good one!

A deer rifle is only as good as it’s glass.

Even if he only hunts occasionally, I wouldn’t short change the man on the times that he does with a POS optic.
Buy something that last a lifetime just like that Savage.

Find a gently used Zeiss Conquest on EBay or Gunbroker.
Pretty well the best deal there ever was in a riflescope was the Zeiss Conquest 3-9X40mm and a shame they no longer make them.

A good buy on an Elite 4200 or Nikon Monarch UCC or Leupold Vari-X III would be good too!

I have had good experience with Bushnell Elites, also with customer service on a lense issue. They sent me a replacement scope in a couple days.

Any scope from one of the big manufacturers in the $200 range should be just fine to kill any SC deer out to 200 yards

Have to agree with this. Got a Savage 110 in 270, Zeiss Conquest is on it. Seems like I paid around $300 or so (4-12x50 I think ). Love that gun

I think my PMs are empty enough to receive a message. Shoot me the specs. I have high mounts for a 1" tube.

Here's a Bushnell Elite 3500 3-9x50 with the BDC 600 reticle that I have no doubt you'd both like.

I have been very happy with a few of the scopes from Weaver in their economy series.

I have a higher end Weaver Grand Slam that is still one of my favorite scopes.

They have really good deals on Burris and Bushnell scopes. I am a really big fan of Burris. I don't know what it is about their glass, but to me it just looks brighter than most other scopes I've looked through.

I bought one of these about a month ago and it is a hell of a scope for $150. The only two complaints is that it is heavy and that certain reticle is not the best for shooting at low light.
