Must be nice! Looks like some should have some jam up hunts!

“Duck hunting gives a man a chance to see the loneliest places …blinds washed by a rolling surf, blue and gold autumn marshes, …a rice field in the rain, flooded pin-oak forests or any remote river delta. In duck hunting the scene is as important as the shooting.” ~ Erwin Bauer, The Duck Hunter’s Bible, 1965

Damn what do you think affects sunflower head size the most?

Weed control or fertilizer timed right or something else ?

The top 4 things, in my opinion, that influence sunflower head size are:
    1. Weed control
    2. Spacing
    3. Fertilizer
    4. Moisture (too much or too little is no good)
These are in the order of importance I live by.

    1. I did good with my preemergents and field prep. I have to work on my post emergent herbicide application process. My field styaed super clean until the plnts were 3 ft tall and then they came on. Not sure would I can do other than maybe a backpack sprayer? The weeds arent god awful tho.

    2. What spacing do you use? I planted in 30" rows and used a 6 cell corn plate on one row and a 12 cell on the other. Its the same plates I used to palnt my corn, the seed was close to the same size so i went with it.

    3. I fertilized the crap out of mine at planting. I could have broadcast nitrogen when the plants were still small but that would have been ALOT of fertilizer in a short time period.

    4. Mine have received a lot of moisture......and that may be part of the issue.

Avery1213 has a great opportunity for a side hustle job teaching us hobby farmers about weed control in sunflowers.

Catdaddy, I can't quit laughing at that meme. I just sent it out to my clays club, dove club and several other hunting friends.
