Default Great Friends are hard to come by

Have a 6 1/2 yr old grandson that loves to hunt with me. Bought him a 22 for Christmas that he loves to shoot and he has been dove hunting with me last year (told his parents it was the BEST DAY EVER)

Was eating with good friend of mine couple weeks ago and we got to talking about kids and deer hunting(his son is a Jr at The Citadel) and told him like to find Cason (Ricky Bobby as I call him, kid loves to drive anything with wheels ) a 243 for when he is ready

He called me last week and told me he had a 243 that I might be interested in complete with Nikon Scope and 4 boxes ammo

Well we met for breakfast this am and he pulled this out of his truck and would not take a dime, told me to just “Pass it on” when both my grandsons were done with it (his son and few others killed their first deer with it )

Had our son run Cason by the house today and their way home for a “surprise “

The look on his face and expression is my friends is what life is about

That is awesome. Enjoy that while it lasts. Won't be long and they will be chasing girls or too cool to hunt.

“Duck hunting gives a man a chance to see the loneliest places …blinds washed by a rolling surf, blue and gold autumn marshes, …a rice field in the rain, flooded pin-oak forests or any remote river delta. Good stuff

Back last spring/summer one of my best friends called to tell me he and his wife were expecting their first. We got to talking and he told me the due date was Feb. 17th, which happens to be my birthday. I told Hunter, “I’ll make you a deal, if it’s a boy and it’s born on my birthday I’ll buy him his first .22 rifle.” Hunter and I go way back, we’ve been squirrel hunting with dogs together since we were in the 6th and 7th grade and we still hunt together to this day. September rolled around and they found out they were having a boy. Feb 17th rolled around and I took the afternoon off to go hunting with another friend of mine. We were in the woods with 6 squirrels in the bag when Hunter called me. They were at the hospital and she was in labor. It was actually pretty funny because he was trying to talk to me and Britt about the hunt and talk his wife through labor at the same time and I could hear her on the other end getting mad at him. 11:28 pm rolls around and their little boy made the deadline with 32min to spare. The very next day I ordered him a Winchester wildcat .22 and took it to him when he was less than 2wks old.

Hunter is good people.. Its been too long since I’ve hunted with him. I laugh to this day when I see a snake because of what he said he’d do if a snake ever bit him while he was pissing...

And tprice, that is awesome. I hope he lets the air out of one ASAP with that gun.

Some folks talk about passing the tradition along and some folks actually make it happen.

Your friend makes it happen! Good stuff
