Even the PD knowing it's your gun, sometimes its hard to get back. My father had one somewhere in Illinois that they wouldn't ship back to him.

For real. I leave one in there, but it's a $200 pistol that has no sentimental value to me that wouldn't matter if it got stolen. The only time other guns are in my truck is if they're in transport to get used.

Yes. They were selling the gun on consignment. It’s a person they deal with often, and they were very adamant that he was on the up and up. I didn’t care. I wanted my gun.

Should still be prosecutable based upon the receiving of stolen property law.

    Perhaps I am incorrect.

I always thought that as well. Evidently not though.. A guy in my hunting club found one of his for sale at a prominent pawn shop in Greenville... happened to also be the same place he bought the gun originally.

Serial numbers don’t lie. Dude may well be on the up and up, but it’s your gun. I would be in the boat you’re in and not care one way or the other about the dude just give me my gun back.

What happens when Joe Blow from the street is found with a stolen gun, he bought unknowingly, in his possession VS. when Mr. Pawn Shop/ Gun Store owner has one he traded, bought or pawned unknowingly as well?

I get a kick out of people thinking weird thoughts. That being said when people say “Columbia” they are speaking in very broad terms. Most of Columbia is what I would consider a suburban area.

He'd go to jail and not the actual guy that stole it, more than likely.

Is there a way for pawn shops to run serial numbers to see if a firearm has been reported as stolen?

    I'd love a LEO's perspective on this.

Just curious, is the "on consignment" avenue a way to bypass running serial numbers through NCIC?

I've bought consigned guns before, and they ran me through SLED. I dont recall anything other than a receipt showing the gun's serial number.
