Pack shorts, it's going to be hotter than hell.
Don't get raped or shot. The 9th ward is a must.
Look above the door before you walk in

Domilise's(po boy - half and half, fully dressed)
Mother's
Cochon Butcher
And go get a steak at Charlies.
ETA: Avoid Bourbon St at all costs!

I love a trip to Nawlins. There is no way I could spend a week there, though.
Make sure you know the answer to where you got your shoes.
Of all places, New Orleans was your first pick?
New Orleans is a spiritually dark place, you can practically feel it when down there.
Been there a handful of times for football games and driven over on the odd night or so on hunting trips.
It'll be an experience if you've never been, but every time I leave there, I say I'll never come back.
I’ll actually be there for 4 days but by the sound of it I’ll be had enough by then

There’s a casino
Theres also fishing not too far away
Some really cool historical and beautiful places in and around (within a 100 miles) of the city. But anything between the causeways and the rivers is dark, dirty as hell and overall a complete cesspool. If you spend any time at all anywhere in the city, be prepared to be shocked in more ways than not! Like said earlier, it is a very dark place.
I could be well fed and happy with that list. So many truly great places to eat and drink.
I will add, Dooky Chase for a real shot at some old school Creole food.
Willie Mae’s Scotch house is a close second for local culture. Awesome fried chicken.
For BBQ shrimp, Pascal Manales is hard to top.
If you want to go white table cloth, Antoine’s , Galatoire’s or Arnaud’s are always top notch.
Our tradition has long been to stop at Central Grocery for a wrapped
Muffaletta sandwich for the ride home.
