    Default shot gun shells

I have not payed much attention to the current ammo shortage, but I am starting to wonder about dove season. Will I be able to buy dove shells? Or will the "tin-hat" wearing hoarders buy all the dove shells too??

Is there a shortage or demand problem? I know people are nuts, but normally after a few months the "nuts" wears off the things return normal. So, will I be able to get dove shells, or do I need to add this to my list of things that piss me off?

Get pissed off- then go to ammoseek or your favorite ammo mfg website and order your shells

And be prepared to pay double the price you expected for shells you really don't want.

I wouldn't expect the market to suddenly get back to normal. There is in fact a shortage of shells at the retail level. Thats hard to ignore if you have gone to any Academy or Walmart recently. The market got drained when Remington ceased production. Covid restrictions further slowed production for a few reasons.

Currently, much of the production is going to gun clubs and they are rationing it to their customers. The shells making it to retail get scooped up pretty quick. It has certainly gotten better in the last couple months. Remington is back up and running. There are a lot of imported brands filling in the gaps. Prices have increased substantially in some cases. I'm seeing double the price I paid a year ago from some sources. Who knows when things will get back to normal and shells will get restocked.

Your best bet is to go buy a round or two of clays at a club near you and most of the time they’ll let you buy an extra box or two.

I’ve got a good enough scrap pile to get me through hunting season.

A couple times the club has let me buy a case. I think I paid 65 for a case of 12 and same for a case of twenty a month or so at a club here in SC.

As long as you aren’t taking advantage of them they’ll usually let you get an extra few boxes.

Where? The only birdshot I’ve been able to find is Nichols store in Rock Hill. They have a pretty good amount of 12ga, but they only had 5 boxes of 20ga when I went last week

I’ve bought a couple cases from Academy over the last month. Not my favorite shells but about $75 for case with tax.

Just keep checking if you’re close by a retailer. Definitely don’t wait until the end of August like everyone else.
