    Default Freelancing NoDak

I’m planning on going to NoDak in October to chase ducks. Never been out there before. Right now I’m looking at hunting in zone 1, but am open to suggestions. I’m going to drive and haul all my gear with me. I want to hunt puddle ducks on water, don’t give a damn about shooting them in a dry field. No, I’m not a mallard purist. 😁

    My questions are:
•how many decoys and what kind?
    •would an atv be beneficial?
•what would be the ideal 7 days to hunt?
    •do’s and dont’s

As of right now, I am going by myself unless tater decides to go. I am open to hunting with other people tho if someone is interested.

    Thanks im advance fella’s.

Go mid October. Birds should be migrating in by then and have color. You can also shoot pheasants while you’re scouting. Like already suggested, take shrimp, bbq, boiled pnuts. They love “gifts”.

When I have some time I'll send a PM. Spent a lot of time working up there while I was at Clemson.

Hunting water is stupid when you can kill em in fields.

U can kill em on water.
U can murder them on small water.

No one knows how to hide in cattails. Remember that.

3 dozen full body geese, 1 dozen full body mallets, 2-3 mojos and lay out blinds. Take a rake or two for stubble. Find the birds on a water hole, then set up in a dry field right below them. Turn off the mojos when the geese come around.

Forget the ducks lets go hunt pheasants

I’m not opposed to shooting deer or pheasants whatsoever

Call the chamber of commerce in Langdon or Cavalier, they will get you in touch with a local farmer. I set a bunch fellas up on this site when I lived out there. They had a blast

Don’t, I repeat, don’t try to duck hunt during their week long rifle season. You will go from not seeing another person for hours one day to it looking like a Tennessee vs Clemson football game with all the orange on opening day. If you are set up in a field and look remotely like a deer (object in a field) they will study you through a rifle scope. Ask me how I know….

The army of orange will come out in droves. In ND in 2000, they issued something like deer 215,000 tags and at the time ND had only 200,000 residents who were 15 - 65.

Big mistake not hunting in fields. I’m 62 and the best time of my life was in a field. Incredible and beyond description. Don’t fuck this up.

    dont overlook fields
dont go during deer season unless you like being looked at thru a scope
    dont overpack
    ATV would be very handy

FISH and sasha go and snuggle in the SE. he can give you some more recent intel.

IMO, its hard to plan a duck hunting trip bc you dont know which ducks will be there. locals vs migratory.
either way, its hard not to have fun out there.
Ugh. Stupid people piss me off.
