    Default Concrete

Anybody had any concrete work done lately? Trying to prepare myself for getting prices on new walkway and patios. Will need a few pallets of brick for edging and plan to do crushed shell in the concrete. I know now is not a good time but I’ve put it off for too long.

Now is a horrible time. Anyone worth a hoot is super busy so be prepared to pay a premium, especially if it is very small.

Youre not going to like the quotes you get.

That’s a given- trying to figure out if I’m just gonna be sad for a few days or like 10 years from now still talking about how much I overpaid.

My sister and I both have gotten concrete quotes in the last 3-4 months. Her highest was $450/yard her lowest was $325. My highest was 425 and my lowest was $225. She is in Columbia and I am in the saluda area.

Don’t even get me started on fencing. $7k for 110’ of aluminum fencing 2 10’ gates.

I'd rent a mixer and buy from lowes before I paid that.

You'd pay for your equipment in just a month or two with those rates...

Time to go find some bricks and sand and just scrap the concrete part.

VG, you were at $440/ yd finished? Damn.
Just got out of a meeting with a big Construction company....really big nationally. Said next quarter will be worse. They were using phrases like making it appealing for subcontractors to want to work on projects. I had decently sized GC tell me they had a sub tell them if the job was over 40hr./wk they didn't want it.

Same guys will be bankrupt when the bubble busts and they cant make their yellowfin and F250 payments. Cheap debt has made a new class of rich blue collar workers. By no means am I knocking it or trying to belittle these guys I just hope for their sake they are preparing for when concrete isn’t $400/yd. I’ve been there, done that and unfortunately had to wear the tshirt as I couldn’t afford a new one during the last crash!
