We hunted with them a few years back. Vic Berg and his wife are outfitters that employ a bunch of guides. You basically tell him what you would like to hunt and how and he will put you with the guide that comes close to your desires. We told him we wanted to shoot redheads one day and he put us with a "kid" that had nothing but buffleheads and hadn't shot a redhead all season. But some of my other buddies did well on pintails and puddlers in Currituck. You rotate around every day so you never hunt with the same guide. We hunted the Currituck blind/guide the next day and never fired a shot.

Accommodations were great though. A seaside resort on the beach that was dirt cheap that time of year and they even had a room to clean birds in or you could pay someone to clean them for you. Lots of good eating places there too.

I think your kid will have a great time. I would try to hunt different styles, maybe a scissor blind out in the Sound one day, Currituck stick blind one day, and so forth. You will have to drive and meet your guide every morning, and some of the drives may be close to an hour.

Yeah we went back in 2009. First day shot teal and pintail in the marsh. Second day shot bufflehead out of a scissor blind, third day hunted sandbar and killed limits of wigeon, redhead, and pintail. Very spotty hunting but a cool place to visit and each day should be different.

We went with them a couple years ago. As previously stated (and the guides will tell you too) the hunting is very hit or miss. First day we were in the marsh, in a beautiful spot and shot one gadwall. Maybe only saw five ducks and that was an all day sit. They had one guide who was really on the redheads so they were rotating all the groups through him since none of the other guides producing. That day was great, saw thousands of redheads, decoyed great and we shot limits of redheads and a decent number of bluebills. It was definitely a neat place to go and a cool experience, lots to do and see in that area.

If it’s just you and your son I’d consider a curtain blind hunt in Ocracoke. PM me if you’d like the number of the guide I recommend (I’ve used them all on the island). It’s pretty cool and a good chance at redheads and pintails if the stars align. Even if you wants to add it to your current scheduled hunt just taking him to Ocracoke would be cool.

Not much to do on Ocracoke in the winter, as most everything is closed, so it’s a good time to be there if you don’t like crowds.
