Log trucker buddy of mine has been sending pics from the mill. Signs up that they are open around the clock and wanting all the wood they can get.

    that makes sense.
but i still hear about mills only excepting wood till noon on some day and will only take certain diameter trees, etc.

I just cant quite figure who is making all the money on the expensive 2x4.

Did a little quick math in the woods with a procurement guy who is getting some of my timber at the moment. The retail potential of $50 worth of pine trees (what I get for 2.5 tons) once converted to OSB hurts my feelings. I just paid about $7500 for sheathing per house for two 1503 sf spec homes, and they paid me $100ish for the raw material...

Lumber futures down nearly 40% over the past month. Did the bubble burst?

people who walk around in public with ipods or bluetooth devices are dooshnozzles and should just as well grow a goatee and groom it impeccably so when their batteries die normal people can spot them.

Can somebody explain how the large drop will impact the existing inventory in the lumber yards and box stores meaning will they sell what they have with the margin over what they paid for it, or replacement value?

At some point they will have to get current. I imagine the big box stores are sitting on a lot of high priced lumber and the small local guys who have been suffering shortages will be in the drivers seat for awhile as supply is available and they can retail for less than the big box. But it probably wont work that way but I hope it does.

You cost average it with what’s coming in? I would think a smart retailer would be hand to mouth when prices are at record highs and wouldn’t be sitting on a ton of inventory.

It would be interesting to know how quick the flip inventory and extend contracts.
