Default Trout fishing - Sapphire NC

Family trips planned for late June and early August and I'm looking for a little intel in the Sapphire/Cashiers area. I have a few boys that want to catch their first trout, they can manage ultralight spin tackle....mepps/panther martins....or we could soak worms/corn/powerbait....no fly stuff. I'm not familiar with the area....but promise to put all fish back.

Get a tube of crickets. NC makes a book of all trout water. It used to be $10. That should help you.

Screw that nonsense. Keep your limit, cook and eat them.

Hell, the cooking and eating is half the fun if you make it so!

Amen. A quick shore lunch will make memories well beyond a catch and release trout...

Gorges State Park has a lot of options. Get a jar of Power Bait honey worms and put on a small hook, split shot, and drop under a cork.

I don't know about NC fishing regs so better check that.

    This!!

I'd go with good sized red worms.

Talk to Delmer. I'm not familiar with the Cashiers/Saphire area, but if you even think you'll be putting them back, don't use treble hooks, and watch some YouTube videos about how to properly handle the trout so you don't injure them.

    Have fun!

I don't think there is much there real close as far as hatchery supported streams. If you are willing to drive a little ways, I can definitely help point you in the right direction. PM Sent with some info that will hopefully help.

Saw that SCTRKY, looks like good info, will be in touch, appreciate it.

If anyone has any more info on Gorges Park let me know……I hadn’t heard it it till today. Looks to be a cool spot but didn’t see much about trout fishing online. .

Gorges park is a beautiful place, but I'm not sure about the trout fishing there... Its got a nice 4wd vehicle trail that leads to a beautiful river, but I've never seen anyone fish there. I lived in Sapphire for two years, and then Seneca SC for 2. If you're willing to drive to gorges, just take a short tip to burrels ford, chatooga gorge, etc. for the trout fishing. It was the best around when I was there, and we made the drive many days.
