Default Field edges near tree line wont grow good

    The title says it all.

The corn on my field edges never seems to grow good. Its always stunted and small.

It seems the Southern edge is always the worst.

I have read online and there seem to be a lot of theories.

What does the scducker crowd think is the issue and a possible solution?

Competition and shade. A root plow or subsoiler could help some.

They are 3-4 inches tall but they really need a rain. They have had none so far. Just lucky to be able to water them.

I need to check the fence this weekend, my dog has gotten through it without acting like he got shocked so I am sure a deer can too

How deep would I need to go to do some good? I have a 48 HP tractor which may not be enough

As deep as you can around the edges. I've used a single bladed subsoiler with decent results. Just put it in low gear and rev it up and your tractor should be able to get deep enough. Most of the tree roots that are robbing you won't be too deep. Keep your hand on the lift lever and your foot ready on the clutch. You'll find ancient stumps.

Seven point chisel plow will do wonders with your horsepower. And get the job done.

Get the biggest size chisel plow you can, and if it’s too much for your tractor take a couple of the shanks off.

Y’all are making this too complicated
