Why is a law maker from Florence focusing on Charleston? Like there isn’t enough to keep him busy in his own town. They will probably make it some kind of bipoc space or something stupid like that.

He's a state representative, they kind of make decisions for the whole state.

I understand that my point is that Florence should keep him busy as that place sucks!

More money wasted, we can’t even keep the fucking roads fixed worth a shit in this state and here we are wasting money on buying some property that we don’t need.

Correct. We have plenty of established Conservation Organizations whose wheelhouse this is right in. To name but 3 whose mission this fits.

    The Nature Conservancy.

    The Lowcountry Land Trust

    South Caroling State Conservation Bank

The state can't manage what it has now. I'd rather see the money put toward a better use.

It is an interesting dicotomy. Why give this task to a developer/conservationist? It is simple. I chair the sub-committee that is in charge of DNR and Conservation bank budget.

I will sleep good knowing we preserved this beautiful property. Quality of life matters as much as money. My decision was no different than the joy we get from managing ducks or an offshore fishing trip. It is not easy to justify the cost to everyone.

For that kind of money I hope it will at least be accessible to the public. Is the Charleston Parks Conservancy going to be involved?

Hell, that is 23 tier 1 Freeman boats that the DNR could buy and operate to take you all on a lottery drawn marlin fishing adventure ever other year...
Lets get 46 of the 500k 34s. If its too rough for a 34, I don't really want to be fishing.

Now you are talking. That Gulf Stream is public water after all. It isn't fair that all those marlins and mahis can only be caught by the rich...

I hate to be the bubble buster for you naysayers- this land is actually UNDERPRICED at 1 mill/acre- one of my recent customers bought a 1/3 acre waterfront lot down the street with an old house on it for 1.3 mill and promptly removed the house to make room for his new multi mill house- his dock couldn't extend into the commercial corridor and therefore at 300+ feet- still goes dry half the time.

If the state just buys, uses for the public access, and sells in 10 years- it would probably DOUBLE in value.

That’s a great question bite size.

I love that the state just has an extra 23 million for occasions such as these.
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.

State won't get this dirt unless major underhandedness ensues.

I was in a meeting this morning and was told the state has over 2 billion in federal Covid19 federal grant money available. Anyone know if there is any truth to that?

Funding is through the reserve fund.

I met with a local lawyer who had an Aunt that used to be a nun at the convent. I have no clue if there is a broker.

Ya know, everything does not have to be diabolical. It was going to be developed. Offers came in for millions more than the state offer. The nuns and the Catholic Church ultimately will decide who buys it. I do know the nuns preferred state ownership so the property would be preserved and provide public access.

PRT will help manage the property to prevent the need for further public funds.

In the end there would be 50 more houses or it is preserved.

Since it is in the City, you would be remiss not to get the Charleston Parks Conservancy in on this.
