    Default NC/GA- 21-22 Seasons/limits

GA DNR: Georgia Waterfowl Season Dates and Regulations Approved

The 2021–2022 migratory bird season hunting dates and regulations were recently approved by the Board of Natural Resources, allowing hunters to begin making their plans for duck, dove and goose hunting, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division (WRD).

“There is one notable change to the migratory bird regulations this year, and that is a change to the mourning dove hunting season. The first split will extend into early October and shooting hours will begin a half-hour before sunrise on opening day,” said Tina Johannsen, Assistant Chief of the WRD Game Management Section. “Through the Natural Resources Management Act, Georgia will continue to offer two additional days of duck hunting to active duty military and veterans. These days will occur on the same dates as Youth Waterfowl Days, which is on Nov. 13–14 this year.”

Some need-to-know dates and details for waterfowl season are the September Canada goose season (Sept. 4–26) and the September teal season (Sept. 11–26). Canada goose hunting has three additional seasons: Oct. 9–24, Nov. 20–28, and Dec. 12–Jan. 31. Hunting season for ducks is Nov. 20–28 and Dec. 12–Jan. 31. A complete summary of migratory bird hunting season dates and bag limits is online at https://georgiawildlife.com/hunting/waterfowl.

Youth, Veteran, and Active Duty Military Waterfowl Days are Nov. 13–14, 2021. On these two days, veterans, active duty military and youth (age 16 or younger) may hunt specific migratory birds, such as ducks, Canada geese, and mergansers. Youth must be accompanied by an adult of at least 18 years of age (only the youth may hunt, unless the adult is a veteran or active duty military).

State license fees help support wildlife conservation in Georgia. The state receives federal funds from the Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration program, based on a number of factors, including the number of paid sporting licenses. In Georgia, these funds are approximately $14 million a year and have helped restore habitat and improve wildlife populations, among other conservation efforts. Hunters may purchase licenses online at www.GoOutdoorsGeorgia.com, by phone at 1-800-366-2661 or at more than 800 license agent locations.

Wildlife Resources Commission OKS season dates for 2021-22 waterfowl, webless migratory game bird and extended falconry seasons.

RALEIGH — The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission recently approved season dates, bag limits and applicable regulations for the 2021-22 waterfowl, webless migratory game bird (including doves) and extended falconry seasons.

Select seasons will be published in the 2021-22 Inland Fishing, Hunting and Trapping Regulations Digest, scheduled for publication Aug. 1.

While many seasons remain unchanged, some notable changes are:

    — Duck season dates are now established within two duck hunting zones, Coastal and Inland. Interstate 95 forms the boundary between the Coastal and Inland duck zones. Up to three season segments are allowed within each zone. The number of season segments, up to the allowable, and season dates within zones can change annually. Federal frameworks require these duck hunting zones to remain in place through the 2025-26 season. Daily bag limits will be the same in both zones.

    — Various webless, waterfowl, and extended falconry seasons have been adjusted to better align with the dates within the two duck hunting zones.

    — Based on the current status of the Eastern population of tundra swans, the number of available swan hunting permits allocated to North Carolina will remain at 4,895.

    — During the open portions of the general duck season, the bag limit for scaup will be one scaup daily from Oct. 21 – Jan. 7, and two scaup daily from Jan. 8 – 31.

For more information on migratory game birds in North Carolina, visit the Commission’s What to Hunt page.

The Commission also voted to notice a temporary rule for the 2021-22 hunting season. The rule was adopted by the Wildlife Commission in February but received objections.

By law, this rule is subject to legislative review, which will not be completed before the 2021-22 hunting season regulations are published on Aug. 1. Enacting a temporary rule will help avoid public confusion when the season starts.

Proposed temporary amendments to Rule 15A NCAC 10D .0103 include all previously adopted changes, with the exception of the prohibition of horseback riding on William H. Silvers Game Land and the name change of Alcoa Game Land to Yadkin River Game Land.

An online public hearing will be held on Thursday at 6 p.m. Pre-registration is required. The public can register online at www.ncwildlife.org/proposed-regulations.

The Commission will accept comments submitted online via the Commission’s comment portal, emailed to regulations@ncwildlife.org, or written and mailed to Rule-making Coordinator, 1701 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, N.C. 27699-1701.
