    Move the season back.

Give me 5 weeks. 3 turkeys per season. Season should be broken up into 3 equal hunting periods in the season. 1 tag available per period. With the option of shooting 2 in the same period, but you forfeit your 3rd tag. One tag for OOS'ers

Best add owls to that as well.

But while we are talking about what we can do as landowners, is trapping worth it? I know it’s a lot of work and time and my time is limited. I know some on here have learned what it takes and the results.

Birds are diminishing in places people can’t hunt.

Birds are diminishing in places coyotes are scarce.

Birds of prey and coons are making the biggest impact on our tracts. One tract is 400 acres that butts up to the Audubon. The board has agreed to not allow turkey hunting on this tract next year due to the decline in birds the last 3 years. It may be to late. We allow two birds for the whole clubs on this tract. Other tract is 1000ish acres and you can shoot all 3 there. Only two birds were killed on the club that we know about. 1 on each tract. Both tracts butt up to Audubon.

It looks like the population where I live has increased so thankfully. How many turkeys do you think have went unreported? How big of a impact do you think hogs have on turkey hatches? The limit needs to be knocked down to two there are way more people hunting now than ever before.

I've seen this in the area I live in. Most land owners in the immediate area of my house either don't allow hunting or hunt their property themselves. This is for a few miles in each direction of my road which borders plenty of large fields. Over the past five years I'd say, the flocks have disappeared out of these fields. I went from having wintering flocks of 20-25 hens on camera to none.

I've also witnessed turkeys disappear from farms whenever hogs moved in.

I'm doing my part. I saw a bunch of those silly ass birds this morning running around our place, our only kill was by a 13 year old girl this year. Big G gave me three shells, but I never got around to wanting to shoot one.

I can't believe nobody has pointed out that the article is from 2019

Yeah, I'm not fond of reading much less opening an article about turkeys.

I firmly believe that in 20 years the wild turkey will be the bob white quail of today

I pray you are wrong but I fear you are correct sir. It’s inevitable with the population growth we have to sustain. Loss of habitat will always be an issue.

I hunt the Pee Dee area. This year I found 2 dead birds I believe both killed by birds of prey or disease.
One had trauma to the neck and both birds left whole nothing eaten. I probably only hunted 10 times killing 3 in the final week.
Ive definitely killed my share of early season birds but in the past few years I have started hunting hard later in April. I get more kills in the timber which is what I prefer and the birds are more responsive throughout the day.
People can and will easily kill all the toms off a pocket of receptive females that are still being bred the first few days of the season. It happens every year. I’ve done it myself. It’s amazing to me turkeys have lasted as long as they have.

Doesn’t matter if the article was written two days ago.

There is an issue and it needs to be addressed.

The only issue I have with the article is the same as when it was posted here 2 years ago. At least use a wild turkey in your pic. Not a farm turkey with a rooster standing guard in the back ground.
