Default Missing Boaters on Clark’s Hill

    Sad situation
I’m hearing that the first man was actually pushed off the boat and his buddy jumped in after him

The video I saw looked like one was pushed and bumped the other one causing both to fall in.

Man that's tough to watch someone drown. Horrible
Listen to your elders. Not because they are always right but because they have more experiences of being wrong.

That's awful. I can't imagine being on those boats unable to help.

They definitely could’ve helped, they probably just lack the knowledge of how to help or they let panic mode take over and were not thinking clearly.

I could be missing something, but how does one not jump in to help?

They should definitely have taken a boat to them and thrown them more flotation, but jumping in to save a drowning person is the LAST resort. Drowning people are dangerous and will kill an average swimmer. If you go in after someone that’s drowning you had better know what you’re doing.

Not saying anyone should have jumped in, but to stand there and continue filming instead of trying to help in some way... well that just ain't worth a chit...

This. And my assumption is that maybe there were not any strong swimmers on the boat. Highly likely none trained to deal with drowning individuals. Sad, and preventable in all sorts of ways.

It ain’t to you and it ain’t to me, but nobody on those boats knew they were watching those two guys die. Not making excuses for them, just telling the truth.

It’s not highly likely, it’s guaranteed.

I have been and a drowning person is damned dangerous.

Dad was a lifeguard all through high school and loved snorkeling caves and such. Strong swimmer.

I watched him save my grandfather from drowning on Murray in December of 1990. I could not figure out why it looked like my dad wouldn’t touch him and fought him away until later. I remember my dad saying that if Pap had grabbed him they both would have drowned. My dad was able to get him by the back of his shirt and drag him back to the boat. I’ll never forget it. Drowning people are desperate and will kill you.

Sounds bad, but my training was “without you they are going to die so if you kill them trying to save them it’s a push so beat them senseless if you have to to get behind them, wrap them up and lean back with them on your chest to get them out of the water”.

If you can get their head and arms out of the water they will stop fighting, but as long as they are feeling water while flailing their arms they will continue to panic.
