I have a couple acres plowed and disked beautifully. I am hoping to spread some pre emergent for corn and sunflowers this weekend and hoping to plant an acre or so of corn.

I will admit the amount of herbicides available and herbicide information for sunflowers is confusing

Sorghum sucks to find birds in

Benne seems weird, except for those delectable little cookies

You've got to have some corn though

When we planted for doves, we were told that planting before the end of turkey season could be construed as baiting since we were not in the farming business. So, we have not done any planting of any sort before the end of the season.

And then there are those in the club that think a tractor running during turkey season will run off the turkeys. We hunt nearly 4k acres. Go figure.

Same folks don't like us working in deer season.

A lot of these folks are friends of 2th. I will blame him. Please note sarcasm.
It's not enough to simply tolerate the 2nd Amendment as an antiquated inconvenience. Caring for the 2nd Amendment means fighting to restore long lost rights.

ha. I'll tell them myself if they think a tractor is gonna ruin there poor turkey season. thats ludicrous. but its also why I am not a member of a club like this these days.

and i am not a DNR agent but you cant tell me I cant plant corn in my duck pond during april.

I mowed the remainder of my standing corn right after dove season and had too much corn still on the ground to risk turkey hunting on the main parcel this year. Farming and hunting aren't compatible on the same acreage according to DNR's discretion in enforcing baiting laws, unless it's a duck pond and even then, you better not knock any stalks over. I've had my lease farmer ruin part of my dove season by planting cover crops even though it was by definition a normal agricultural practice. I do not trust game wardens to use common sense anymore.

parker for the win! (the only worry I have with late planting is not having available food on the ground PRIOR TO the opening weekend)
