    Default #2 with gratitude

Today I got my 2nd bird and it was a morning I won’t forget. I guess because I’m so new to this but it was moving in a sense that is difficult to explain. Was talking to my wife today about why I waiting until my 40s to get serious about turkey hunting and as usual her wisdom was spot on. Sometimes it’s good to discover passions later or midway through life. At any rate I left the woods profoundly grateful for the blessing and experience of the morning

Been seeing a gobbler on and off again with no consistency. Slipped in beside an overgrown hedgerow adjacent to a field and block of woods. By 6:05 he was firing off on the roost. But then went silent. Soft calls just to remind him where I was and waited. Nothing was in the field so I started reading my morning devotion on the phone, looked up and he was in the field. Commenced to strutting and slowly made his way to my jake / hen decoys.

A few soft yelps and he made his way toward the decoys strutting and weaving. It was a beautiful thing to watch. Took him at about 40yds with a super black eagle my mother helped me purchase in 1998. I was alone so I propped up the camper, set the timer, and gave my best grin. I wish I would have had my daughters with me but school took precedent. He was a Boss Tom, double beard was just over 10”. Spurs an inch. Figured I would share because I am grateful for the sum total of beauty I beheld this am.

    Very nice, congrats.

    Another turkey hunter.

    Just kidding, but not really.

    Congrats on a fine bird.
