    Default Gotta Congratulate My Kid...

    Proud dad moment:

    That smile you see after winning the Atlanta Braves Country Battle HR Derby!

    Colt is 12, but is "playing up" this season, so he had to compete in the 13U bracket for the derby tonight.

    He is the most dedicated & self-motivated child I have ever known. He probably hits 800-1,000 balls a week, does morning and evening work-outs, and even created his own 6-day training list and tries very hard to abide by it.

    It's been fun watching him grow in his skills, learn from his mistakes, and watch his numbers improve. It's even better to listen to other kids talk about him when he's batting or pitching.

    If any of y'all see #44 out there on the weekends, go give the young man a high-five. (And, just to clarify, that ugly chain is a prize from the derby!)

    It wasn't huge, as they were set up at the pitcher's mound and they had a barrier fence. We measured it at 225. He crushed everything though; nothing was close. He cleared 8 of 14 in a 30 second time limit.

    He's been hitting them consistently out of Westville's park which is 300. He got 7 outta there during practice the other day and they ranged from 305-325.

    He's pitching 74 & his exit velocity is 72.

    He's got big dreams. He's written down his goals and reads them a few times a week. He's a 98-100 student and knows how important grades are when it comes to scholarships. When he sets his mind to do something, thus far, he has always made it happen.

    We are extremely fortune to have such a fantastic child. I hope a driver's license and girls don't make him stray too far, one day...
