    Default First bird

Last Friday I took the day off to take my oldest boy. He’s 7. First spot off the roost we went we had a longbeard come running to us gobbling every breath. He popped out into the field about 35 yards to our right and hit the brakes as soon as he saw the decoy. I had a half strut Jake out. He stood there for 5 minutes gobbling and walking in circles then eased off. I could of killed him but didn’t want to long gun my son. We went to another spot and had two birds fire off. They made their way to us and it was two Jake’s. I wasn’t going to let him shoot one at first, but that day was the first day this season we have had any action and it’s not about what I want. I asked him if he wanted to shoot. Of course he said yes. So the birds started getting alert and walking off. I told him you better take one when you get a shot. At that point they were 25 yards easing off. He picked a gap between two trees and crushed one .

    Very nice.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home. -Tecumseh-
