    Default Swamp birds

Ain’t no joke....hunted this guy and his buddy for 5 days. Long story short every day something would happen or they would just do turkey stuff and slip away. Worst day was I had to use a boat to access where they were and one morning they we’re roosted over the boat and strutted around it 20 yards for 10-15 minutes while I watched, 100 yards down the road. Calls never worked, hens would take them the other way. Lucked up this morning and set up where they wanted to fly down. The sub dominant bird landed 15 feet from me(he had the better beard, I found out later) then the dominant bird flew down for his last time and landed about 30 yards.... very very frustrating 5 days but I would get up and start all over again tomorrow if I could. Something about using a boat to get to one has a different feel to it than the ones you just walk to from the truck.

    17 ish lbs
    1 1/4” and 1” (broke off) spur
8 1/4” beard very very thin

When in doubt, shoot him again!

Work like it's all up to me, but pray, like it's all up to him!

That's a pretty a place as I've ever seen to chase a bird.

I would rather kill 1 swamp bird than 10 field birds any day.

    Everything is better by boat.

Great work. If you haven't swam to kill a turkey, you don't want to kill one bad enough...

Reminds me of an early morning hunt years ago in a flooded swamp. I was wearing hip waders and my buddy was wearing chest waders and we were making a move across the swamp and came upon a fast moving stream.
We found a double trunk tree blown down across the stream with the trunk and rootball disappearing below the waters surface on the other side. It was decided that Chris would hold my shotgun and I would go first to see if I could make across without flooding my hip waders.
As I got closer and closer to the other side, the water got closer and closer to the top of my waders. When I had about an inch to go before topping my waders I was able to jump up on the upper tree trunk and then climb up on the root ball. As I turned to my buddy in victory the root ball gave way and pitched my ass right back into the stream over my head. Struck the tree trunk on the way down and busted my ribs up.

Yeah, I've gone swimming to kill a turkey.

Gorgeous place to hunt. Those kind of hunts are the most rewarding. Congratulations

Nice. I use a zip-lock bag as a wallet during turkey season. There are folks here that can attest to this as truth. But, as I get older, I cross creeks less and less, but I still get wet. I have always said that if I come home from turkey hunting and I'm not wet above the knees, I'm not hunting hard enough.

    Great work.

I've seen you wet to your chest and then going to drive a 2hr round trip to get your kayak to chase a bird.
