I thought crappie at first, but the deeply forked tail and overly big eye is throwing me off...I didn't count the dorsal fins before we threw it back, and should have...Plus the fact that it came out of a minnow trap that my Granddaughter had out in a spring fed ditch on my farm, many miles from where I thought a crappie may be.

A flier would make more sense because of where she caught it but it seems the mouth is way too big and it's too light colored to be a flier. I think the tail is just damaged - maybe from the minnow trap.

It seems that you have crappie in your ditch...

With all of the rain and flooding we’ve had for the last couple of years who knows where a fish might end up? That’s definitely a crappie.

    Live bait for rockfish.
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.

I had a 12” bass in a stream on my place that will get bone dr in dry weather. I have no clue where he came from or where he went when the stream dried up. Fed him crickets and grasshoppers for 30 minutes one afternoon.
