    Default Bullock's and Baltimore Oriole

These two different species have an interesting history that includes, for a 12-year period, being lumped together into one species uninterestingly called "Northern Oriole". The Bullock's Oriole (on the left) is a western species that somehow found it's way to Dad's oriole circus feeder in Moncks Corner. Baltimore Orioles (on the right) usually leave the US entirely during winter months but more and more are overstaying the winter in the continental US because of feeding stations.

Dad has even allowed the DNR to come out and band Orioles at his place. For years I've watched his flocks hoping for a Bullock's and, finally, one showed up, and an adult male at that.

The trees and the feeder make it look like a composite but it's just one photo.

    Man that’s so cool.
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.

I never thought I'd become a bird watcher but last year a friend gave my wife a bluebird house. I nailed it to a palmetto tree and it had an potential occupant checking it out the same day. Fast forward to this spring and I found myself at the local bird feeder specialty store paying $55 for a plastic tub of meal worms. The cost of the worms isn't even the stupid part. Now we keep a tupperware bowl next to the back door and a constant eye out to make sure none of the birds are looking for their next snack. While I was out of town on a business trip, my wife texted me that the male bluebird was beating on the windows looking for his snack.

Screw a cricket cage full of crickets to your feeder post for cheap entertainment.

Hey Palmetto Bug, bluebirds like pistachios too but you have to shell them first...

That Bullock is lost. Neat to see though.
It's not enough to simply tolerate the 2nd Amendment as an antiquated inconvenience. Caring for the 2nd Amendment means fighting to restore long lost rights.
