Had a quick fun hunt hunt for the public opener. Wasn’t expecting much this morning with the high wind and the front just passing over night. I went in blind this morning to a place I’ve only looked at on the map, went to spot where I felt like a bird should be and heard one gobble just as the first bit of light started to break. I eased 150 yards closer and he gobbled again, that time I had a good idea of where he was. Covered the last 200 yards as quick as I could as it was breaking daylight quick. As I sat down he was gobbling at every breath. I let out a few light yelps and he cut me off, did a fly down cackle and laid the call down. It was still dark in the woods when I heard him fly down within 40 yards. I spun around on the tree thinking he would come from the left and he stepped into the road at 20 steps a few minutes later. His one spur is oddly shaped and he’s lacking the other. All in all it was fun morning.
