Man with 6 guns, body armor arrested inside Publix at Atlantic Station, police say
ATLANTA — Atlanta police say they arrested a man who brought multiple guns into the Publix grocery store at Atlantic Station Wednesday afternoon.
They have now cleared the store and are investigating a suspicious package there.
Investigators say the man, identified as 22-year-old Rico Marley, walked into the store just after 1:30 p.m. holding a rifle. He then went into the bathroom.
A witness told us he was inside the bathroom and saw Marley with a rifle in the stall behind him. He quickly alerted store management, who called police.
“I saw an AR-15 and I was like ... you know, this kind of startled me, again with the events that just recently happened in the grocery store up in Colorado,” witness Charles Russell said. “I went to the clerk at the customer service desk working at the time and let them know. It wasn’t acted upon right away. It was actually taken a little more lightly than I thought it would be, especially with the recent events.”
As Marley exited the bathroom, officers arrested him.
Investigators said he had two long guns and three pistols in his possession. Channel 2′s Matt Johnson obtained a photo of the guns that were confiscated and the pictured showed at least another one.
He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
Marley is charged with reckless conduct and is being transferred to the Fulton County jail.
