    Default Gumbo

I'm going to make a gumbo this weekend. It seems like I remember someone posting a recipe for a roux that is made in the oven. I can't seem to come across it on here. Has anyone tried a roux in the oven and if so how did it turn out? I'm just trying to save some time from constantly stirring the pan for almost a hour to get a nice chocolate colored roux.

I've never met roux like that but I have friends that do. Just make your rue ahead of time.it really doesn't take that long if you got a good wide skillet and a good even heat.

Making the roux is my favorite part of the whole process. It's like watching the goodness get created.

Benny had the best roux method ever, if you can find it with our intellectually challenged search function...

i am confident in my ability to cook the fuck out of some gumbo. I am, however, not as confident in the "give a shit" of those I serve it to. I have made a gumbo that people thought was great....with an instant roux.

Always looking for the easy way out.
Stirring the roux is one of the many reasons I have a wife and kids.
The last gumbo I made was with bacon grease with the flour instead of oil and was mighty sporty...

There is not one thing wrong with using the mix. It's easy and 100% failproof ... Been quite a few times I have had to go get my own beer while whisking a roux only to come back to see that it scorched. Nothin worse than having to start over. I can't find anyone that can tell the difference in a 3 beer 45 minute roux or one I made from the Tony C's powder. It's that good of an ingredient.

Alright, alright. Since some of you say it's better to stir it on stove i'll do that, but i'll make it a 6 beer 45 minute roux....

    Daaaaaaaaaang,

Do we need to do a Gumbo challenge?? I have a bunch of folks on here who have eaten Gumbo I cook.. They would have to be exempted from the judging panel. I want it to be fair..
