Default Cypress house siding- stain/seal? Advice needed

Recently purchased a house with 1x6 cypress siding. The areas under the porch are in good condition, sun side has some fade and there was also a deck out back which I removed that caused water damage to some of the siding. I will be having that siding replaced as the bottom of it was rotted (no gutters).

After the bad areas are replaced I would like to stain and seal the cypress but have not dealt with this in the past not have much experience siding/wood staining. I do not want to paint and would prefer something similar to an early American stain color

    Thoughts/suggestions?

i dont know shit but since no one else will respond, I'll say something stupid and people will show up.

I would pressure wash it, let it dry, and stain it with whatever appropriate stain/protector you want.

    Hope this helps

I would carefully pressure wash and use any Olympic stain of your choice.

Ask the local sherwin williams manager. They have some training on stains and wood.

I used sikkens Cetol on mine
The cypress didn’t take the varnish/stain/sealer like the pine and cedar did but found that the sikkkens worked the best for me.
    About 100.00 a gallon
I had a ton of left over cypress and used at my batten strips

Thank you all for the tips. For those that have applied did you roll or spray?

Sikkens is the way to go. Helmsman is a good choice too, to seal with. Sikkens is a two coat stain/sealer. You can also buy a Sikkens refresher to apply in between coats every few years to keep it looking new. Lot of log home manufacturers use them, my dad is a GC and has used it for years for work and personal.

    Spray is always the answer.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

I'd treat with Clorox/water before I stained any of it.

The Sikkens you brush or roll on. Olympic and Sikkens are night and day.

That's a sexy building you have there lawdawg.

I use diesel and burnt motor oil on my raw wood buildings. Wasps dont build nests near it. Bees dont chew on it. It doesnt look awful.

    You're welcome.
