Thanks. My oldest girl GSP isn’t doing so well. Thinking of something different but similar next go round. I got a beard, figure my dog should too.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

I saw that trick with the leash from a coon hunter years ago, works great.

It has a tang and spirit shared by no other sport—a philosophy compounded of sleet, the winnow of unseen wings, and the reeks of marsh mud and wet wool. Thanks dc727.

Hunt with buddy with a llewellin drop. She's super nice.

Another buddy just picked up a new setter a few weeks ago. I'm ready for the next few seasons already!

The breed's moniker sounds like a regimental name for a Waffen-SS unit. Fitting for a dog who reputedly takes no prisoners.

It translates to German Wirehair. Dont go an put a "th" sound (think thesaurus). It's a hard T and a hard H.

If you're curious and want to read up:

    vdd-gna.org

I wanted a versatile dog that would point, and retrieve. Went to a couple of training events, met the folks. Totally sold on how they came to be. Waited two years for the breeding I wanted. My first one was Scott Crabtree's Vom Stillwasser G litter. I'm now on my second DD, he is lacking in the furnishings dept, but he is pretty damned intelligent.

If the Krauts can do anything right it's engineering...and IMO they've done a fine job of engineering the DD. If I own a different breed again, it will be a Teckel.

When it comes to maintenance, I prefer my shorthair. My Teckel is the first long haired dog I've had an a long time and now I remember why I went with the shorthairs. She can get wadded up with sand spurs and cockleburs in fields that don't even have them. She requires way more hair care than any other family member. I'd shave her except for the fact that my wife just loves her cute, shaggy, wookie look. And she can smuggle her weight in sand.

Oof. Yeah. Cockleburs and beggars lice are rough on the "furnished" dogs. I have spent a significant portion of my life digging that crap out of my previous dog's hair.
