    Default Oncology Recommendations

I’ll keep it simple without the back story.

My lab has a mass in his mouth and I’m being referred to an Oncologist that has access to radiation therapy. My local oncologists and surgeon didn’t have a definitive answer on the two so I was hoping if y’all had any experience with either.

We are looking at Upstate Vet in Greenville and CARE which is located in Charlotte. I imagine that the services and care at both facilities is probably very high due to the services they provide. I was just hoping for a solid recommendation for either. They are both the same distance which is why I’m splitting hairs possibly.

    Thanks. TJ

You have several vets here including a couple of Sponsors. Speak to them and do whatever it is they suggest because that sounds mighty expensive. Hoping for the best for your boy...

I think you would be fine with either. Oral cancers can be aggressive and tough to treat. I would book sooner than later and weigh your options based on docs reccs after exam.
Sorry you are having to deal with it and I wish you luck.

I refer to both regularly and it's really a coin flip decision.

Oncology isn't cheap for sure. Is it oral melanoma?

    Thanks Glenn.

Lab results from biopsy came back inconclusive so an additional stain was completed. Came back with Soft tissue sarcoma and narrowed down to possibly Fibrosarcoma. Its on his upper lip with bone involvement.

We have been pretty aggressive, downside to the whole deal was we found it right before Memorial Day weekend. Between the holiday and waiting for the inconclusive result which needed to be stained we lost some time there. Surgery consult took the longest to get but its out of our control. Everything has been done the CVRC and they have been great.

Surgery consult was today and radiation was the only option on the table due to aggressive spread. Referrals were sent out, but no-one had a clear answer on who they dealt with better. Was hoping for just some insight.. thanks for the best wishes JAB and Island.

Ah dang. Yeah. That’s a tough draw. At least with melanoma you have the vaccine option.

    Good luck. Keep us posted.

Good buddy of mine is the ophthalmology vet with CARE in Charlotte. I know they have a specialist for everything up there and do some pretty advanced work. Good luck with everything.

    TJ, check here... https://bluepearlvet.com/hospital/mount-pleasant-sc/
They have a location in Summerville beside Popeyes across from Palmetto State Armory. That's where I took Bandit for his Colon polyps just in case they turned out malignant. Took 2 surgeries but he appears to be good to go now.
