A Florida Keys charter fishing captain was jailed last week after police said he made illegal catches that he bragged about on social media.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said one of their officers saw that the captain had posted on Instagram photos of an out-of-season hogfish snagged in January and, in June 2020, a blue parrotfish longer than 12 inches.

A Florida Keys charter fishing captain posted this photo on his Instagram account. The catch includes a blue parrotfish over 12 inches long. PROVIDED BY FLORIDA FISH AND WILDLIFE CONSERVATION COMMISSION

Randall David Jones, 52, of Tavernier, was arrested Feb. 12 on two misdemeanor charges and taken to the Monroe County jail on Plantation Key. He was released the same day after posting a $10,000 bond.

Jones was also cited for not having a valid charter fishing license, said FWC spokesman Officer Bobby Dube.

On Instagram, Jones is “Capt. Davey Jones,” and he posts under an account named “Munstersfishing,” which has nearly 48,000 followers. Munsters Fishing Charters is based in Islamorada and is also called Dave Jones Fishing on its website.

FWC said Jones goes by Davey Jones and David Jones.

Jones admitted to taking the hogfish off Islamorada on Jan. 18 and catching the parrotfish on June 12, 2020, according to the arrest warrant.

“We made a mistake with the hog,” Jones posted in a comment on the Instagram post after someone asked if hogfish season was closed, according to Florida Fish and Wildlife. Jones added that it’s “hard to keep up with the rapid changes,” the warrant states.

Arrested and hauled to jail with a 10k bond- 2 illegal fish must be a much greater crime than throwing Molotov cocktails at cops and burning businesses.
I'm so glad this DANGEROUS threat to society was locked up- then immediately released.

This is a prime example why everyone hates the criminal justice system- write him a fish ticket and let him pay it, but he does need to go to court over the unlicensed charter business- unfair trade advantage over all of the properly licensed and insured charter operations

So I guess my ‘friend’ shouldn’t post the tailgate pic of the 4 jakes he hammered eating under his feeder Sunday?

    Roger that.

This is absolutely ridiculous, then to top it off all off it becomes a major news story ? Man........... game wardens get all the credit for simply checking instagram. Yet when regular cops chase a murderer we get written up because the chase was too dangerous......... sounds about right

Somewhere is where a woman on vacation was kept in jail for weeks for finding a queen conch shell and keeping it.

FWC is serious about their natural resources.

Catching 2 illegal fish: arrested, taken to jail, 2 misdemeanor charges $10,000 bond, cited for not having a valid charter fishing license.

Seattle riots: destroying, burning, looting businesses. Trapping, attempting to burn cops alive. Arrested, charged ??????? Crickets.....
    Minnesota: Riots, looting, destroying business'

A Florida charter guide license is $200....no excuse not to have one (assuming he had his credentials). Id be interested to see how this is prosecuted as technically everyone (without their own license) on his boat was fishing without a license for as long as he has not held one, and likely keeping fish.

Also "“hard to keep up with the rapid changes,” its your job to know these changes.

Alas.... the root of the problem. Loss of license money. Thats what got FWC's attention.

No, FWC loves to make cases. Makes a goodly chunk of them off social media.

Pretty good catch on the yellowtail.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

I know, right? I was watching Into the Blue starring Paul Walker last night and was wondering just where the hell all those monster yellers are hanging out when I am trying to load up?
