Default Which wax to re-wax a jacket?

My Filson tin ran out. Any difference between Filson, Barbour and Otter waxes?

Sno seal works well too. Heat it up til its liquidy and paint it on. Even it out with hairdryer

Well it’s an old LL Bean coat. I had just just the Filson wax because it came with some chaps. Now I’m out and was going to get Filson again but saw the otter was a good bit cheaper. Then someone on the internet said the Barbour was easier to work with. Some now I’m looking for some real world experience.

Phoneman, I didn’t think about SnoSeal. I’ve got a can in my show shine box and it’s a lot easier to find.

SnoSeal is bees wax. Supposedly once you use bees wax the cotton fibers won't take up the paraffin wax (wax in Filson) anymore. You want the wax inside the cotton fibers not on it.

Personally, I would use the manufacture's wax. However, a couple years ago I experimented with Sno seal and a heat gun on two old canvas hunting jackets trying to make a poor man's grease coat. It took a bit to get it right but worked out great, they are waterproof and look good.

I just did mine with Filson wax. It worked well. I had an old tin that was difficult to use. Buying a new tin of wax made all the difference.

I buy Barbour because I can pick it up in a store about a block from my office.

Like I said earlier, no way I'd use Sno seal on a Filson or Barbour, but if you're looking to do an old canvas jacket on the cheap, it works fine.

    The two I did.

I just re waxed my Barbour and Filson about a month ago. I used wax from both manufacturers on their respective jackets. The Barbour wax, once heated to a liquid form (per their instructions), was easier to apply and get in the seams than the Filson wax, since it was left in a solid state. Neither were very difficult just a little tedious and time consuming. A hair dryer or heat gun to finish the job is a must in my opinion.
