    Default Welding hood

I'm not a pro welder by a long shot but I get by doing stuff on the farm. Today I was having a little trouble starting my arc where I wanted because I couldn't see due to tent of the lens, I wasn't far off but enough to piss me off. Anybody use an auto darkening hood?

Daily. Haven't bought one in awhile but a good Miller hood around $150 or less ought to fit the bill. Not tier 1 but you'll be able to buy replacement lense covers at any Airgas or welding store that sells Miller. Batteries last for a year or two with regular daily use.

I use a Miller auto hood now but my harbor freight from 12yrs ago still works fine, smaller viewing window but fine.

The Hobart ones from Tractor Supply can be gotten for less than $100. I don't use one daily but it works well

Get a Jackson 2x4 flip front. Arc one single or lincoln adjustable shade auto lense. Flip it up to Grind. It’s all I use. You won’t be sorry.

I use a Lincoln*, got it from Airgas. Buy a bunch of batteries, they will die in the middle of using it one day. Really couldn’t imagine not using one now.

    I’ve got a few.

    Jackson manual
    Miller elite digital
    Miller classic digital
    Custom pancake

For the money the Miller classic will do what you need but it is always beneficial to learn how to use a manual hood

I’ve been using an auto darkening helmet for 10+ years and still catch myself doing the old head nod. Hard habit to break.

Yeah the Lincoln’s run through batteries but it’s nice to adjust shades vs switching multiple lenses with singles.
