Default Youth Beretta A400 20 gauge

Few years back I saw a Berrtta A400 20 ga at woodys in Orangeburg. This one had a wood stock that included a compact and full size butt stock. At the time even with the shorter stock it did not fit my son and we walked out with a Franchi A3 compact.

Boy is 12 now and grown little more and for some reason I can’t seem to even find the same configuration on the Beretta website. Woodys I guess is still closed so can’t get answers there either.

So those who have kids in shooting sports that have A400’s, what version are they shooting? Only compact listing I find is a black synthetic. Looking for something he can continue to shoot as he grows. He shot his first sporting clays event yesterday and is hooked.

I’ve looked through the other youth threads here, but looking to see if anyone has seen the a400 with both stocks included.

My boys have 20g A400 lites that have stock spacers. Both have kick off and are easy to load / shoot . Cleaning is also easy .

I bought the youth lite compact for my son and it has done nothing but jam. It has been to multiple gunsmiths and one finally drilled the gas port as a last try and it still only works with heavy loads.

Send it to Cole Guns for an action job and I bet it will cycle.

My 12 yr olds are on the smaller side and handle a full size 12 just fine.

In 2020 I shouldn’t have to send a $1000 brand new Beretta to a gunsmith.... I have been a browning guy my entire life and my middle child wanted something else. This gun has been a lemon.

I sent both of mine just as a matter of course, as I was taking them to Argentina and didn't want to worry about them. It's the equivalent of a couple thousand rounds of break in - neither has ever given me an ounce of trouble since. I think it cost like $60 per gun back then.

Picked up an a400 20g xplor about a month ago for my son.

Apparently it only likes to digest Winchester AA’s. Problem is I can no longer find them and had to order federal top gun shells. Kid at Clinton house few weeks back had one that wouldn’t cycle Winchester Universal 20 g.

Sucks to have to send a $1400 gun off that is supposed to not be picky.

Tell me about opening up the gas port. I’m no gun smith and will not pretend to be. Anyone reputable in state that does this service? My child is already ashamed enough of me, I don’t want to be the one to “break” his new gun.

It’s a known issue. You just drill out the other gas port. I don’t recall the exact drill bit size but the google should tell you

Or I’ll give you $1000 for it and you can be rid of it.

I am willing to rid all of you of these worthless Berettas. With cash money

Don’t drill out the other gas port, just drill the existing one with a 7-64 bit. Take a paper clip or something and make sure you know which one is the open one.
The paper clip will also allow you to see the angle to drill. Steady pressure and make sure not to torque the bit and break it off in the barrel

And Winchester universals are the worst cheap shell they make. They love to swell a bit and stick in the chamber
