Default Honda recon for kids/deer hunting

Selling an older rancher to get a non manual for kiddos....after looking a pricing of newer ones may be easier to just get the kids a recon or other smaller machine that fits them better.

Question...if I want to jump on the recon to haul a deer is it too small?

No. Recon is a very capable machine.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Recon is about size of old honda 300. If it had come in 4x4 id prob have bought that instead of my rancher

Great ATVs both my kids had them. Youngest sold his when he got older, no telling how many miles he had on it- he rode it all the time. We still have the oldest sons think it’s a 2006. I used it many times to haul deer out and still going strong.

You’ll have no problem hauling deer. Recon seems smaller to me than the old 300, so I think the only drawback with them is kids might outgrow, plus I’m a big dude and want something I can ride too. I like the Rancher better for those reasons.

I used to keep an old 2wd recon stashed in the woods "just in case" a deer tan where the golf cart couldn't go. Couple years ago my uncle shot a buck and we needed it. We were about 2 miles from the truck. I'm about 330 and I don't know how much he weighs but it's more than me. The buck was about 140lbs. I ain't gonna say it was fun but it hauled us out fine. I'd had loved to watched it. I'm sure we looked like go go gorilla. But it did the job

We’ve got a recon we got at a deal that needed a little bit of work from lack of use. Put a winch on it too. It’s great. You can pick it up if need be to move it. Kids aren’t small in height or stature & they ride it. Great machine.

We have one for my 8 year old and it’s a solid machine.

My son has a 2002 I bought 4 years ago that needed a little work. Simple to maintain. Great machine, he rides the wheels off it. I use it around the house and farm myself. I dont think you can go wrong with one.

Recon is smaller, turns easier, and faster, from what I've seen. Not sure I've seen one with pushbutton shift but I've only seen older friends models. Either will haul a load.
4 wheel drive either, turning radius bigger, harder to steer.

My oldest got a Recon ES 2 years ago. That little thing will haul ass. It’s light too, get it stuck, just pick up the rear and move it. I moved my youngest from a Grizzly 90 to it this year, gave my oldest my Rancher and got another IRS Rancher.

The only thing I don’t like about the Recon is the carburetor engine, it’s difficult to get started when it’s cold, great when it warms up though.

My uncle has four Honda ATVs. The one every outdoorsman would select on looks alone is an electric shift. He hates it because he's always having issues with the wires getting caught on stumps or debris and causing electrical issues. He's currently looking to trade it for something with a manual shifter.

I'd suggest a manual unless you have kids who are too young to shift. Fewer electronics typically means fewer chances for failure.

There is a pretty nice one in Campabello on marketplace. Also a pretty decent looking one in Lancaster. Both under $2k
