    Default BBQ Grill Gurus

Finally found what I was looking for at the price I was willing to pay. Cooked on it this am for the church and did great. Only challenge is one side cooks hotter than the other. Lookin at the flame it looks pretty consistent. It this a common issue and is there a way to even it out? The far end is the hotter of the two.

Someone will be along shortly that will know more than both of us, but every grill I think I have ever been around that uses a single pipe for the burner always cooks hotter on one end. I’m sure there is a way to fix it, but I don’t know how

If it is fed by a single gas line, to a single burner, the hotter end will be the capped end. Adding a 2nd gas line feed to the "capped" end will kind of even it out. Otherwise you'll have to replace the burner pipe and make the flame openings/orrifices smaller as you reach the capped end.

Yes that is the way it is set up. Is is because the propane is pushed to the end and forced out more quickly?

Correct. If the holes/orrifices were smaller on the capped end, more pressure would be required to get the gas out. Therefore the gas would back up to other holes and burn more evenly.

Had a grill similar, but had 4 Burners. The gentleman who built it, Simmons Welding in Hampton educated me.

Cut that out and build a double pipe burner.

Get a magnetic level. Make sure it is level and cook on it. If it is still uneven use the jack and raise the end that isnt as hot a bit. It won't be perfect but will help even the heat a bit.

Set a tee in the middle and feed both ways from center.

It'll never work right if you keep calling it a "BBQ grill".

BBQ is pork (or maybe beef brisket) cooked a specific way. The appliance it is cooked on is NOT a "BBQ" or "BBQ grill" unless you live in a place where it is put away for the winter and drug it out in the spring to have friends over to "barbecue some hamburgers".

Uneven heat isn't always a bad thing. It might come in handy if you're cooking different pieces of meat that are different thicknesses. Sometimes you can learn to use the difference to really fine tune how much heat is hitting the meat.

I should have put smoker after further reflection. Point taken.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Using the hotter side for burgers, hot dogs and more direct heat meat that has quicker cook times. Use the other side for slow cook. The only challenge I can think of is I want to cook multiple butts that are going to take up the entire surface area. I guess they will be done at different times.

How about a burner that makes a loop, more even pressure.

Wouldn't you want the smoke to exit on the opposite side of the smoker from the fire box?

No. I'm sure there is a plate in there to take the heat to the opposite end and then back over the meat to the stack. That's how good smokers are built.
Crops are harvested, animals are killed.
