so, they need to be the same age, but not necessarily the same type?
anybody have experience with a solar powered timer/feeder for chickens?

Ugh. Stupid people piss me off.
oh shit
I would 2nd the Buffs. We have mixed ages, coop just needs to be bug enough to let the younger ones get away... they will figure out the pecking order.
We use two gravity feeders and fill them every week and a half or so. Water is a 5 gallon bucket with chicken nipples. This time of year we fill once a week. During the summer it is more often.
Do you want solar just for polo field conversations?

There’s no way he does anything based on any reply to this thread. Every reply is purely anecdotal, not real science. We all know the dentite don’t roll like that, if he did his hypocrite meter would explode.
i dont think you get me but i admire your consistency. Also, your punctuation and sentence structure are atrocious.
My wife wants chickens. I get chickens. I cant get out there every day to feed or water. I was told I may need a feeding system. I am a work in progress in many ways....

Sorry for the poor grammar. I’ll get BT to edit for me next time.
I've got a coop within a run, with about half of the run being in a wood line. The run fence is only about five feet high and uncovered at the top, so my rooster and one hen get out every now and then and check things out around the place. Someone has to shut the coop door at dusk and open it in the morning. I've considered coming up with an automatic opener and closer for the coop door, but my neighbors have been willing to do it for us when we're not around. I have a deer feeder I keep loaded up with chicken feed that takes care of the food part. I've got a waterer that needs to be filled and/or cleaned every week or so. All in all, it's pretty low maintenance. In three plus years, I've only lost one bird to a predator, and that was one night when no one locked up the coop. :knock on wood:
