    Default Chicken nerds

What kind of bird do we have here? We got him when he was younger but he’s grown now. Maybe a year or year and a half. His tail feathers keep coming and going. Depends on his attitude and the Boykin. He gets fiesty every once in awhile and will go after the dog and she’ll get after him. I’m sure he’d have a full set of long feathers if she wouldn’t have pulled most of them out. F8AF2193-B5AC-4551-AFD2-EC99A1D27356.jpgD4DC00FA-70CF-4039-A515-61DDBC6A9D1D.jpg

Thanks sir. He’s a cool bird. He follows around the yard and him and the cocker get along but whatever reason he doesn’t like the Boykin. They’ve gotten into it a few times but she will get the better of him

He’s a Crested Cream Legbar. If you got any hens of the same breed, you’re getting some nice blue eggs.

He’s got some good spurs already. That’s what pissed the Boykin off. She usually doesn’t pay attn to him but that day I guess he got her good cause she chased him around the yard for a solid 5 mins. Got all of his tail feathers. Hearing my 5 year old daughter belly laughing was the best part of it.

    ok chicken nerds

i got a coop and run going up. the missus wants some laying hens. i am thinking about getting a solid dozen of them. I dont want another rooster. been there, done that. I am entertaining the idea of solar lights and automated feeders. i have people that will help with egg collecting during the week when i cant get there.

what types? all same or mixed? what other things does a newbie need to worry with? i dont google or youtube a damn thing. just tell me.

If it was me, I'd go with Buff Orpingtons or Golden Comets.

Someone will be along shortly to say something different.

The golden comets were just brown chickens, but they produced pretty good and was easy. I learned the hard way about introducing different age groups. The money to be had in a migrant trailer park to view that battle royal!
