Has anyone hunted the Cape recently? Have a draw hunt there next week and wanted to know what to expect

Next week, if you see a ginger and midget, stay clear of those guys.

Don't commit to one spot. Be mobile, watch the birds and go where they want to be. Walking through the muck to where they wanna be usually isn't much fun. Just carry a few decoys. A jet sled will make life easier. Don't carry more than 25 shells. Don't step on a gator.

Zero wind, warm, sunny bluebird day, it was slow after the first hour.

The greenjeans wanted to write us a ticket for shooting over the limit in pintails.... not sure how you mistake a GADWAL DRAKE as a pintail hen.

He told us to hang on and he went to get one of the biologists. Walked back with her and showed both our pintails then picked up the gadwal drakes and asked her “this is a pintail hen correct?”

His excuse was he usually just sees wood ducks and the occasional mallard where he works.....

No excuse for that stupidity. There are so many ID tools out there that there is really no reason to get it wrong.
    For the ducks

You shoulda called him a dumbass in front of the biologist
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.

Not too surprising. We got checked Sunday morning by two female wardens who were a little unsure of what a woodcock was, and why exactly we were hunting them. They were nice but not too knowledgeable on the subject.

Had one salivating one time over a rock hind thinking it was a speckled. Also called my 21" scamp a gag and swore the limit was 22".

    It happens.

Good hunt either way. Nicely done.

I was there also but didn't see that happen. You missed the mottled/black duck debate that happened with the group of 4 and him.

We moved at 7:15 with zero shots fired. I killed my 6 in an hour then like you said it got slow. Tons of BWT around there right now.

Hunted Murphy island yesterday. Lots of ducks but very decoy shy. Was cloudy but had decent wind. We still managed limits.
