Default To tell you just have damn bad it is

My buddy who lives in Paragould has been hunting for about 65 years. He went to Asbaugh yesterday morning to hunt and said it was only two other trucks at the landing!! Boys if there’s only two trucks at that landing, it’s not bad it’s freaking horrible!

If we don’t get a major blizzard soon in the Dakotas, the end of the season will go out as one of the worst on record in all of my years of hunting out there.

Also I might be the contrarian point of view, but I believe we still have quite a few ducks but we have absolutely had no weather this year nor the last two years to make them really move down.

Who is telling you that the Dakotas are loaded with ducks right now?

So FWIW, I called the Upper Souris National Wildlife Refuge in Carpio, North Dakota just now and spoke with Patty. They estimate 5,000 ducks.

Call around and get back to us when you find the one holding the millions. I would be very interested in that information...

No one has told me that it is in assumption on my part. I ain’t buying that the numbers have collapsed like this is just a year two. Maybe they are stuck in Canada or Arizona, but I don’t believe the numbers are bottom of the barrel. My buddy also said that the numbers of pintails and spoonies on the lake are the most he’s ever seen. They may be scrapduckd as he calls them but they are still ducks. He did say there were very few mallards.

Don't assume. Call them and ask them. Start at the top and work your way South. Nobody wants to be wrong more than I do...

I can hear all y'all thinking "What did those nice people in North Dakota ever do to JAB that he would put this evil on them?".

It costs money to call them, no worries...

I have an old band I recovered from a Greenhead that was banded at Clark Salyer. Don't expect that I will ever get another from there. Are the good times really over for good??

If the weather stays the way it has been then yes. I’m optimistic is not going to be this way forever.

Ever thought about counts being off because of COVID? I mean it would be most govt employees doing the counts and around here it seems like you see fewer govt employees out and about. Counting ducks is probably deemed nonessential.

I got out of my AR club after last season. Two years ago was brutal and last year was not much better. I've been told by my buddies still in it that this year has been terrible. Most of them have been hunting further west and going north. Regarding pintails. I've hunted North Dakota, Louisiana and Hyde County this year and I've seen more pintails than ever before.
