    Default Late season

We shot today. A lot of birds. Big migratory flocks. There are no ducks but at least there are doves.

We saw a good bit today as well. Planning to shoot tomorrow instead of duck hunting.

We had a decent shoot Thursday afternoon.
10 of us killed 117 in just over 2hrs.

I’d call that well above decent for this time of year.

We got on them good as well. Late season sesame proving to be the ticket.

I was wondering how y’all did, glad y’all had a good shoot.

We planted some sesame years ago for the first season. Came up great but the birds did t seem to care a thing for it, I’ll have to keep it in mind for the late season

    Sunflowers. Leave them standing.

My sunflowers are gone. I cut most of the rest of my standing corn and there is plenty on the ground already rotting. No doves. In the adjacent peanut field, I saw a flock of around 30. I can't understand why they are not coming in the corn field. They have ignored sunflowers, wheat and corn this year. I've had good shoots in this same field in previous years.

We have what’s left of our sunflowers (not much), some wheat and some sesame that is just right.

That is strange. Something has changed that you have yet to recognize.

It really is strange. I've considered birds of prey but haven't seen any more than normal hanging around and the doves still roost in the trees beside the dove field. There have been peanuts in the field behind the dove field before too so I don't understand the exclusive preference this year. All that work and money and I didn't get a single decent hunt out of the field all year. I had a few hundred in the field before dove season.

    Anyone got any birds left?
“Duck hunting gives a man a chance to see the loneliest places …blinds washed by a rolling surf, blue and gold autumn marshes, …a rice field in the rain, flooded pin-oak forests or any remote river delta. In duck hunting the scene is as important as the shooting.” ~ Erwin Bauer, The Duck Hunter’s Bible, 1965

Beyond sporty. I bet it was gusting 25 up here. I shot well over a box, probably 1 1/2, to pick up 10 birds.
