    Default Pole Yard Landing

Is the Pole Yard landing safe to leave a vehicle at? Never launched from there. Got invited to go with some guys this weekend and stay at a boat access only cabin up the river from there, and not sure about having to leave my truck sitting there for 3 days. Fill me in. I’ll take all valuables out, but still don’t want my stuff getting messed up

I'd be nervous about leaving my truck at a ramp for three days anywhere regardless of the ramp. And then posting about it online letting anyone who has access to to the internet see that the truck at Poleyard will be there vacant for three days. Not trying to sound like a dick but just my two cents.

I’ve never had issues there. Gets a lot of traffic during duck season and right next to 17 cuts down on issues in my opinion. That being said it’s not out of the question, but I’d lock the trailer and take everything out and wouldn’t worry too much. Had a buddy who used to fish in Oregon all the time with lots of beak in issues. Says he took everything out and left it unlocked so they could rummage through without breaking windows.

Thanks. Would really like to find someone close by that would let me rent a spot in their yard for the weekend. Hopefully there won’t be any issues

What do the guys that invited you do with their vehicles?

Leave them. Should be mine and one other. One guy in the group has been to this place but the rest of us are first timers

I’ve come back to that landing and seen a lot of broken windows. It isn’t the safest in the world even during duck season. Had people hunting with me have things stolen out of their trucks. It’s an easy place for them to hit and get out. Some years are better than others but I don’t use that ramp unless I have to.

    I wouldn’t leave mine there.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

I’ve left my truck there plenty of times with no issues. That said I’m pretty close with the crabbers and commercial guys that use that landing so they keep an eye out for trucks they know.

On that note, anyone care to rent a drive or enough space for two trucks and trailers close by from Thursday-Sunday?

Where are you going on the river? Round House? Cane Island? West of the Bridge? There are other landings that you could use.

You’re not going to find anyone that close to the landing.

I’ve left mine there many times hunting and fishing without an issue but that being said I’ve come back to other peoples tires cut and windows busted. It can be bad but so can most other landings, I wouldn’t want my truck there in the middle of the night.

A few years back almost every single truck in the parking had their tires cut and several windows broken one morning.

Your next best bet is Phoenix McConnell or Wambaw Creek. But both of those landings are a good ways into the National Forest and would be a good ride down river to where you are going.

Really Wish I could help ya. Have some family and friends around there but would be a difficult thing for me to try to coordinate and explain. If I lived up there I would be happy to accommodate.
