    Default 28 Gauge

Left work at lunch yesterday to sneak in the woods for a couple hours. Stopped by the house to get the dog and opened the gun cabinet and in the back I glanced at my first shotgun. An 870 28 gauge that I haven’t shot in over 15 years. My grandparents engraved it, gave it to me in Christmas 2003 and I shot it for about two years before I graduated to a 20. Decided it was time to dust her off and give her a whirl. Scrounged up a box of ammo and headed out for a few hours of walking behind the dog. Birds were definitely few and far between. Covered a lot of ground and finally found them in the last 45 minutes of light. Callie flushed 3, killed 3. Little ole guns still got it.

Sent a picture of the gun and the memory to my grandparents. Good afternoon in the woods.

That’s as good a way to end a year as any.

    Well done
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Not trying to hijack thread but this was the straw that broke the camels back I think and I thank you for that. Took my 28 silver pigeon this morning and shot my first duck with it. Many doves have fallen to it but this was the first duck. It made me quite happy

Sad day yesterday. Took the gheenoe out to access some spots. Killed birds but on the way out the current caught us and rolled us into a log. Gheenoe capsized and flipped. Lost a motor, that 28 guage, my friends over under, Three phones, a Glock and a handful of other important hunting stuff. Material stuff can be replaced, we're happy to have got it together and got back to the truck. Bought a few retrieval magnets last night and will try to drag bottom for the guns when the river calms down.

If that's all I would get someone in the water and try to find those guns and motor ASAP

It's over 10' deep right now and you would drown trying to retrieve right now. I've definitely thought about it though...

Damn hate that for you. Glad you’re ok though. First shot or two threw me off with the lack of noise/kick. Wasn’t sure I shot even

Glad it wasn’t a worse ending and hope you are able to recover your stuff.
