Tell me your thoughts on why 5 or 6 +. Looking at his body, I can see he seems to be older, but the lack of muscle through his neck has me thinking younger, and there is no sag in his back. Maybe it's just the camera angles, and obviously I'm not a professional "deer ager". Like I said my first thoughts were 3-1/2 - 4-1/2, but y'all are saying 5 +. Just wanting to pick your brains a little.

His nose and brisket are what I keep going back to to disprove my first thoughts.

3.5, maybe 4.5. Body is blocky but the skinny neck doesn’t match the body.

id guess 5+ based on brisket and how short the legs look proportionally.

i saw an interesting article about spikes and developing future brow tines. a study of 217 deer over a 23 year period in texas found that 90% of deer without brow tines at 3.5-4.5 years old were spikes at 1.5 years. ALL bucks without brow tines at 1.5 years old lacked brow tines at 4.5 years old.

ive been letting young spikes walk, thinking that they'd eventually develop into nicer deer, but the article is making me rethink that.

The only certainty when it comes to Spikes is that if you hammer one, it won't ever get a chance to grow another set of antlers. However,

I sat next to a pretty well regarded deer "Expert" in TX recently. We culled some does. A large framed deer that was dark Chocolate colored ( most all the does are grey this time of the year) and larger than the mature does we had already killed , eased out of the mesquite at about 350 yards.. No antlers seen initially due to distance. We watched until the deer was in sure range for a shot and clear of all other deer to avoid collateral damage. Green light was given. Shot connected. Deer fell.

Walked to the scene and found that the deer was in fact a buck with a pair of 1.5" spikes about as thick as a man's thumb. Biologist asked me how old I thought the deer was. I guessed 1.5. Weighed the deer at camp -155 lbs. Pulled the jawbone and after some study - 5.5 years or older. A damn sure trophy cull.

He looks old. Not all deer follow that stupid qdma poster. Just like not all people look the same at 50, 60, 70 etc.
belly sag, sway back, etc don't ever happen to some bucks. I guess they stay 3.5 forever according to that poster.

When I see a keel on a brisket it’s usually old enough around here, buck or doe. Just being honest. That’s a big one and like others have said, no sign of being run down.
