    Thanks for the reply
    Pretty neat story
Wife inherits Japanese arisaka type 99 from her grandad in Charleston about 6-8 years ago but her grandad wasn’t In WW2
So we don’t have any info on the gun besides the “mums” are intact and the gun was an original with anti aircraft sights.
I have 3 boys and the oldest is now 14. You can see him in the other photos and he is the luckiest deer hunting kid I know
Just look at the deer in other photos he has killed in the Spartanburg county sc and Polk county NC the last few years. Anyway he has been on me for years to get ammo and test fore the gun. I cleaned it and read online that they were safe etc
I finally ordered some ammo 2 weeks ago. 7.7 Jap.
I picked him up from school and we hustled to the “farm” aka hunting land to the range
He shot 14 rounds from 50 to 100 yards.
At 100 he was holding a 6-8 inch group.
We decided a small food plot was best.
He went to his stand and I went another way.
Just before dark I hear a shot. Then 10 seconds later another.
    He texted got him.
The buck came out to food plot edge while he was eating gold fish and making a bunch of noise.
Bang. He missed. Deer runs towards him and stops at 20 yards and he drills him in the heart and runs under his stand and falls over dead.
I’m just happy I finally figured out how to post photos. It only took me 10 years.

Awesome. That kid will never forget that and neither with you. I also understand the intense focus that comes with the second shot after a clean miss on the first!
