    Default 2001 Tacoma Suspension

When I put my 4wheeler (97 Fourtrax) in the bed it makes the truck look tooted. I realize this isn't a big ol' rolling coal diesel truck and it has its limitations, but the lean looks a touch excessive. Would replacing the leaf springs with new help (135k on the truck) or should I look at something stiffer than original? I would like to not make it ride like wagon when it's empty.

    Thanks,
    Mike

Buddy of mine put air bags in the back of his 01 Tacoma so he can level it back off when he loads it down with tools.

Sounds like you have the wrong truck for the job.

You should post pics and a price to rid yourself of the problem

Can I assume that the add-a-leaf will also "lift" the rear when empty?

Tacoma’s are known for leaf sag. I had same issue with the 96 I have. Added the cheap add on single leafs from autozone. Stiffened and lifted bed till I broke a regular single leaf in the stack crossing a ditch with a load of wood. Then I replaced them outright. Purchased from rock auto which was an ordeal. Just pick them up local. Not that hard to replace. No issues since and I work that truck like a rented mule.

Get you an old man emu Dakar leaf pack and call it a day. Around $400 for the set. Better quality suspension for the rear of the Tacoma.

I had some air bags in an older gen 2 runner, worked well when loaded with corn. That might be a route.

BTW, good to see the old silver runner going strong. Still kinda miss that one, it was a tank.

    Spur,
Did you replace with stock? If so, did it keep the rear end from sagging with a load and keep it close to original height? Mines pretty level now with out a load and would like to keep it like that if possible.

    Winyah,

My family and I greatly appreciate you selling that 4Runner to us. It is a great vehicle and is amazing how well it rides. My wife loves it and we will probably never sell it. I did have to google how to get the rear locker on the other day after trying for 30 minutes.

Yes. Holding up fine too. Mine had prob 2” sag or more. May have had something to do with my having hauled a concrete yard table and benches in it. Nice sky view on that ride home. I hit the bolts with pb blaster a day before working on it. If I can change them out by myself I am pretty sure most could do so too.

If you are going to keep it forever and really want to get it right, buy some Alcan Springs.

    This.

Put a 2.5” complete suspension on my 2000 4Runner I used to have to clear 33” bfg at’s. I replaced the coil overs in the front with the old man emu and changed the coils and shocks in the back with some of their 906s. After the alignment the vehicle drove and even rode better than new. Old man emu is a quality after market upgrade to say the least.
