Default A double to start the year

This was my first time using a leg-hold/drowning set and I can see myself buying more of those in the future.

Caught a ~25#’er in the Bridger and a 50#’er in the 330. Everything was reset and I put out another 330 on the other side of the crossover. Hopefully I can add a few more pelts to the blanket tomorrow.

It was a nice diversion since our duck season is out.

Very nice. They are a lot of fun to trap. Before I figured out drowning sets, I had a beaver leg trap set in a pond edge where they were damming up the pipes. Came by on my way to work about 4am, and a big girl was standing on the pond dam gnawing at my trap. I pulled up, popped her with the .22, and dang the pressure behind the blood shooting out.

I’ve got a couple of new 330s getting a coat of rust now. First order of business after deer season will be beavers

The “help” the beavers are providing is backing the water up and over/into areas that don’t need to be flooded. The culverts etc need to be kept clear to prevent damage to the roads.

I installed or am in the process of installing beaver guards on all of our culverts. Some of them are getting Agri Drain guards and others are getting hog panels tied together in a v shape in front of the opening so I can easily scoop out and debris with the backhoe. Its a constant battle with the damn things

I've had a couple bore through a dike that's existed since the revolution, old rice marsh.. only to drain it to fill up the canal built for water control. I used to trap a decent amount years back, but now we pay someone once a year. they never stop.

I understand damage control but that’s not how the post is presented.

I didn't present it any way other than to say I got a double. My comment about a nice diversion is just that. I'm accomplishing work that needs to be done while I am otherwise unable to hunt ducks. I'm not ashamed to say I enjoy the work.

I ended up with 4 beaver and 1 muskrat in less than a week. The culverts have been clear and the traps were empty today. Everything was pulled and I’ll start doing a little more scouting for beaver when our duck season comes back in this coming weekend.

No need to let them rust. Just hit them with a little spray paint.

They can also be destructive little bastards. I’ve got a plugged flash board riser right now because of them. Also I have a low road that stayed wet too long this year due to the weather that they have turned into a pond. Gonna take a lot of dry weather and time before I can fix that and get access to the other side of my property. While they do make good good temporary habitat. They kill oaks that provide food if left flooded all the time.

Spray paint definitely works, or did in my case.

Yea in my experience you don’t need to treat them like coyote or fox traps. Just hit them with some paint to take the shine off and you are good to go. No need to worry about smell, plus the paint keeps the rust at bay.
