    Default Honda “security” keys cut

What’s the word on getting a spare key cut for a 2000 Honda Accord that will work with the security system?

Dealer is telling me $250 and have to have the car to be able to program it? Anyone found a less expensive solution that works? Not trying to get too deep in this car.

    TIA

Check out Key Harbor up next to the old Michael Chevrolet...had one made for the Sequoia just a few weeks back. 40% of what the dealer wanted.

eBay blank. Pay locksmith or hardware store to cut. Comes with programming instructions. Takes 20 seconds to do.

Our local Ace Hardware can cut chip keys. I’d check with one near you to see if they can do it. If not any locksmith should be able to for less than the dealer.

For our Fords I just order the chipped blank keys and have someone cut them for me - $25 or so for both then follow the online instructions on how to program the car to accept the new key. It's pretty easy but Ford requires that you already have two chipped keys programmed. If you wait 'til you're down to one only the dealer can do it.

For my older Buick, I cut a regular key and installed a diode that over-rode the security feature. Youtube was the key.
Honey...I'll do it after the season is over.

Had to get a security key for a Silverado cut last year, Was about 70 bucks at Ace Hardware in Williamston.

Took the girl about 45 minutes and she must have told me at least A dozen times that she was a manager
