Fish, That sounds like my three jump and goodbye story last May.
Do you think it is worth it to put out one for marlin and hope while still meat fishing?

Yes ... but on an 80 (or 50wLRS). The all pink one works too... left short with a medium Spanish behind it.

I'm editing this to answer your question, DT. Yes, you absolutely can target marlin with one rod. I usually keep that bait as close to the boat as possible, off to one side and out of the prop wash, short rigger, like PP said.
If you fish enough out of Charleston, you're going to see one eventually. One morning last summer, we had two small fish up on meat fish tackle. We could have easily caught one or both of those, but the kids who said they were offshore super killers actually sucked.

Got to have that red head....
Chrome dome and blue are ok, but that red head is lethal.
DT- beat the fish to the rod and you can catch whatever you want with whatever you have. Your angler better know how drags work, and your boat driver better know what he’s doing. If you let the fish get down and tight, yes, you better have heavy shit.
Circle that fish as soon as it settles down, and it will stay on top. Turn the handle!

I should add that Fish is spot on about the tackle, If you put heavy gear out, you better have the backbone to sink that steel. If a blue marlin shows up behind your regular gear, beat him to the rod!
Is there a website for Pinnacle or just get Johns number from the Hull Truth site?
